The filing process for the upcoming Dallas ISD board of trustees election begins Jan. 18.

Residents may obtain an application packet at 5151 Samuell Blvd., Room 245, according to DISD officials. An election packet can either be submitted at the administration building or sent via email.

Three board seats out of nine will be on the ballot for the May 6 election, including Districts 2, 6 and 8. These districts are served by Dustin Marshall, Joyce Freeman and Joe Carreon, respectively.

Board members in DISD serve three-year staggered terms and are not subject to term limits.

District 2 includes schools in the north and eastern side of Dallas, including Lakewood and the Mockingbird Station area. Marshall first was elected for District 2 in a special election in 2016 before winning reelection in 2017 and 2020.

District 6 covers schools in southwest Dallas, including Carter High School and Kimball High School. Freeman has served District 6 since 2014 after winning two re-election bids in 2017 and 2020.

District 8 covers schools in the northern side of Dallas near Love Field, as well as areas of West Dallas. Carreon was first elected to the board in 2020.

No word has been made on whether Marshall, Freeman or Carreon will file for re-election at this time.

The deadline to file for the election is Feb. 17. Early voting begins April 24 and continues through May 2 ahead of the May 6 election.
