Dallas ISD officials are working to prepare academic calendars for the next two school years, according to a press release.

Two draft calendars are being considered to serve as the base calendar for the 2023-24 and 2024-25 school years for DISD.

Among the differences in the 2023-24 school year calendars posted on the district website are options for winter breaks for students that last from Dec. 21-Jan. 5 or from Dec. 25-Jan. 9.

The new calendar will include the required 175 days of instruction, a week off for Thanksgiving, a weeklong spring break, and fair days for elementary and secondary schools. Labor Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day and Juneteenth are included as holidays in the new academic calendar.

As part of the development of the calendars, DISD solicited input on the calendars from parents, staff and students in early October. A final decision on the 2023-24 and 2024-25 calendars has not yet been made.

The district has also not yet decided on having intersession and school day redesign calendars, but this will not affect breaks or holidays, according to the press release.

The district has three academic calendars used in schools, according to the DISD website. The 2022-23 calendar includes 85 instructional days in the fall and 90 in the spring for the total of 175 days of required instruction.
