Community members have an upcoming opportunity to meet with the new leader of Dallas ISD.

Newly appointed Superintendent Stephanie Elizalde will give remarks and meet with attendees in a welcoming reception June 28 at The Black Academy of Arts and Letters, 650 S. Griffin St., Dallas. The free event is coordinated by Next Generation Action Network, according to a news release for the reception.

The reception will begin at 6:30 p.m., according to the release. Elizalde is set to speak at 7 p.m.

Elizalde was formally named the next superintendent June 9 following a 21-day state-mandated waiting period after the DISD board of trustees named her as the lone finalist for the job, according to a DISD statement.

She most recently served as the superintendent of Austin ISD, serving more than 80,000 students and 12,000 employees, according to the statement. Elizalde previously served as the chief of school leadership for DISD.

Michael Hinojosa will remain with DISD until December and serve as emeritus superintendent to help “ensure a smooth transition.”
