Here are five dining options that have opened in recent months in the East Dallas area.
Great American Hero celebrated its grand opening at its new location on Nov. 14. The 75-year-old restaurant relocated to the Timber Creek Crossing Center in Dallas from its original Lemmon Avenue location after new ownership bought the restaurant in January. Great American Hero, now located at 6216 Retail Road, offers a variety of sandwich options, serving cold cuts that include ham, turkey and roast beef as well as offering made-to-order classics, such as the Philly cheesesteak and Italian meatball sub. 214-272-7505
Salataopened its new location in northeast Dallas on Dec. 5, according to a manager at the restaurant. The salad kitchen, located at 6464 E. Northwest Hwy., Dallas, offers various styles of salads and wraps that can be customized with more than 50 all-natural toppings and 12 signature dressings, according to its website. The restaurant also offers teas, soups, fresh bread, cookies and more, according to its website. The Houston-based salad kitchen has over 90 locations in five states. 469-902-2170
Komé Sushi and Handroll Baropened in Lake Highlands on Dec. 6, according to a representative of the restaurant. Komé Sushi, located at 8041 Walnut Hill Lane, Ste. 820, offers handrolls, a type of rolled sushi served in a long tube rather than cut into pieces. The restaurant also serves sashimi, nigiri and more, all prepared with “fresh, premium ingredients,” according to its website. The restaurant’s head chef Roy Ahn has owned and managed various sushi restaurants across the Dallas-Fort Worth area, including Little Katana at the Galleria Dallas, according to the restaurant’s website. 214-238-6314
Casa de la Chilanga started serving up Mexican dishes Jan. 7 in Old East Dallas. Located at 4933 Columbia Ave., the restaurant offers breakfast plates, such as burritos and huevos rancheros, as well as dinner plates, such as flautas, steak and mole. 214-434-1118.
Shell Shackopened its Lake Highlands location Jan. 9 at the Creekside Shopping Center. The seafood restaurant is located at 6770 Abrams Road, Ste. 180. Shell Shack offers a seafood menu with crab, shrimp and crawfish dishes in a casual dining atmosphere.
