According to officials, the first batch of statements was sent Oct. 7, and they are being sent as soon as they are printed by the vendor.
"This allows taxpayers the maximum amount of time to plan and make their payments on time,” Dallas County Tax Assessor-Collector John R. Ames said in a statement.
Online tax payments can be made at www.dallascounty.org/tax. Citizens may also pay by phone by calling J.P. Morgan Chase Bank at 877-253-0150.
“Please be safe and conduct your transaction online if possible," Ames said. "We look forward to serving the needs of the citizens of Dallas County.”
Ames stressed people should not wait to pay their taxes in case of emergency.
“Unfortunately, the [U.S. Department of Labor] law does not allow the tax assessor to waive penalties and interest because you've been given a format to pay October, November [and] December in January,” Ames said. “We’d certainly encourage people to pay at least two weeks before the deadline to avoid any kind of penalty issues,” Ames said.
Penalties for late tax statements start with a 7% fee and increase by 2% each month after the deadline.
“We certainly encourage people to go online or mail their payments," Ames said. "Those are the best and easiest ways to do it.”
