Dallas City Council members will meet in the coming days to consider firing or disciplining City Manager T.C. Broadnax.

A special-called meeting will take place on June 15 following a regularly scheduled briefing to council members, a city memo states.

In the meeting, council members will “consider taking appropriate action related to the performance of the city manager, including discipline or removal,” according to the memo.

Signatures from council members Paula Blackmon, Cara Mendelsohn and Gay Donnell Willis are included in the memo.

Mayor Eric Johnson said he believes it is time for a change in city management, according to a statement provided by his office.

"Several of my duly elected colleagues on the Dallas City Council have made it clear in recent days that they also believe it is time for a change," Johnson said in his statement. "We are ready to move forward and discuss how best to build for the future of our great city and its amazing people, and that is why I have placed the item on the City Council’s agenda for next week.”

Blackmon, in her own statement, said it is time to have “an honest conversation” regarding leadership at city hall.

“I saw, firsthand, the leadership gap we have in solving the permitting problems with urgency and expediency,” Blackmon said. “We need bold leadership to solve this operational problem while addressing the IT concerns citywide and homelessness throughout the city.”

Broadnax said he looks forward to sharing work he has done to improve the lives of Dallas residents.

"Periodic performance review is critical to me and all city employees to demonstrate progress and ensure transparency for our residents, taxpayers and stakeholders," Broadnax said in a statement. "I am proud of the hard work which has led to [the] accomplishment of many goals related to the City Council’s eight strategic priorities and look forward to sharing the R.E.A.L. impact we continue to make to improve the lives of Dallas residents in ways that are responsible, equitable, accountable and legitimate, together as one Dallas."

Broadnax began serving as city manager on Feb. 1, 2017, according to the city website. Prior to serving Dallas, he served as city manager in Tacoma, Washington and has more than 25 years of municipal government management experience.
