The Lake Highlands Family YMCA is continuing to undergo renovations, with plans to add a new “childwatch” room, cycle studio and office suite, among other upgrades.

The backstory

Renovations to the YMCA, located at 8920 Stults Road, began in September 2022 with a parking lot expansion and a new temporary entrance added to the west side of the facility. Phase 1 of the construction increased parking capacity by 68% to a total of 205 parking spaces, according to a YMCA news release.

YMCA staff announced Oct. 25 that the second phase of construction, which included adding 15,000 square feet of new space to the facility, was complete. The additional space houses the YMCA’s new fitness center, two group exercise rooms, a multipurpose room, and a new entry and lobby. New locker rooms and changing room spaces were also added.

The details

In addition to the new cycle studio and childwatch room, the YMCA’s basketball gym will be renovated, according to a news release.

The remodeling is part of a “comprehensive plan to renovate existing YMCA locations, partner with new communities and reimagine programs to better serve the needs of the growing North Texas community,” according to the news release.

The Lake Highlands YMCA will remain open through the final construction phase, which is projected to be completed in early 2024.
