Several new businesses are scheduled to move into the East Dallas area in the coming months, including Daiso and Modern Animal. This is a noncomprehensive list.

1. Daiso

Japanese dollar store Daiso is scheduled to open in the Mockingbird Commons shopping center in Lakewood this fall.

The store will open at 6333 E. Mockingbird Lane, Ste. 141, according to the shopping center’s site plan and a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The department filing states construction on the space will start in mid-July and finish by mid-September, but the company could not be reached to confirm the timeline.

Daiso sells a variety of products, including Asian snacks, home decor, kitchenware, beauty items, stationery, gift wrap, greeting cards, electronics accessories and pet supplies. Over 40% of its products are imported from China, South Korea, Japan and other Asian countries, according to the company's website. www.daisous.com


2. Modern Animal

Modern Animal, a Los Angeles-based veterinary company, is planning to open a new clinic in Lakewood at the end of the summer.

Previously expected to open by June, the clinic is now set to open Aug. 28, according to the company’s website. It will offer a variety of primary and preventive care options, including surgery and dental care, wellness exams, microchipping, and spay and neuter services. Virtual care options are also available.

The Lakewood clinic, joining an Austin location coming soon as the only ones outside of California, will be located at 6465 E. Mockingbird Lane, Ste. 310, Dallas. www.modernanimal.com


3. HHM Health

Lake Highlands-based nonprofit HHM Health in partnership with nonprofit Hope Cottage is expanding its service in east Dallas with a new maternal health clinic.

The two nonprofits plan to bring prenatal care to underserved patients. HHM Health will offer low-cost pregnancy testing, Medicaid enrollment and prenatal care. Hope Cottage will provide parenting education, case management, and access to community resources during and after pregnancies as well as adoption information and counseling for interested parents.

The new clinic will be located on the first floor of Hope Cottage’s headquarters at 609 Texas St., Dallas. Construction on the space is slated to begin in August with an opening planned for January, according to the news release. www.hhmhealth.org
