Dallas-based design firm SHM Architects is moving into the over 12,000-square-foot top floor of the historic Meadows Building at Energy Square, according to a press release.

The Meadows Building, a 170,000-square-foot office building located at 5646 Milton St., was built in 1955. The suburban office tower originally served as the headquarters for the General American Oil Company.

“[SHM] needed a space that is both larger and inspiring to accommodate its growing headcount, and promote its brand and image,” said Michael Griffin, real estate agent for firm Transwestern, in a statement. “The penthouse space of the iconic mid-century modern Meadows Building was the perfect solution.”

The firm was previously located in the Knox District of Dallas at 4514 Travis St.

According to the company’s website, SMH works on a variety of projects, including residential, interiors, ranch-style homes, community spaces and churches.

“Ever since the beginning of our firm, we have had our eye on the Meadows Building,” David Stocker, founding principal at SHM Architects, said in a statement. “It is a lovely example of mid-century modernism. It reflects our firm’s idea of respecting history yet building on those ideas in new ways."

With more than 1.1 million rentable square feet spread out over five buildings, Energy Square recently underwent a renovation that includes a state-of-the-art 10,000-square-foot fitness center, conference center, tenant lounges, revamped delis, campus park and outdoor deck, according to the press release.

SHM Architects was founded in 2005 in Dallas by David Stocker, Mark Hoesterey and Enrique Montenegro. Conducting a lot of work in the Mountain West region, SHM launched a satellite studio in Colorado in 2019. www.shmarchitects.com
