When Reg Baker was 15 years old, he started working at a gas station at the corner of Audelia Road and Walnut Hill Lane.

“Back in that day, every young man was crazy about cars, and I was as well,” Baker said.

For the ensuing 25 years, Baker reported for work at that station. He worked in the gas station side of the business, and for 15 years, he was the lead technician and ran the repair shop. In 1989, Baker bought the business. He later relocated to 10702 Audelia Road, and the name was changed to Baker’s Lake Highlands Automotive. In 2017, his son Jordon Baker became co-owner.

Jordon grew up working in the shop and had been a mechanic for almost 15 years. Jordon said his father knew he would not be happy working for him forever, and they would end up as either partners or competitors. “At the time that happened, I had been the shop foreman and running the production side of the shop for a while,” Jordon said. “I had been growing the business and knew that I wanted a shot at my own shop.”The full-service shop repairs all types of vehicles and provides a wide range of services.

“[Our] only limitations are diesel work and body work,” Jordon said. “We will check your tire, fix your tire [and] replace your tire as well as replace your motor and anything in between.”

Jordon said there is over 150 years of combined industry experience represented by their staff, which includes general manager Adam Tharp, who has worked for the company for 20 years.

Reflecting on his career longevity, Baker explained he has always been a creature of habit who hated change. “I just stuck with it, and it paid off,” he said.
