What you need to know
City staff will be providing updates throughout the inclement weather. Comprehensive updates will be shared on the city government's social media pages and website twice daily around 5 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Mass messages will also be sent to those subscribed to Alert Roanoke, Roanoke’s emergency alert notification system.
In addition, residents can check these resources periodically for the most up to date information:
- The city website at www.roanoketexas.com/winterweather
- The fire department's Facebook page for updates from the emergency manager
- Alerts from the police department about road conditions on its Instagram, Facebook or X pages
- Power outages can be monitored or reported via the Oncor outage map at www.stormcenter.oncor.com
Precautions have been taken to ensure safety, according to the city’s website, including:
- The public works department has prepped the city's water system and prepared three trucks for sanding operations on Roanoke roadways
- The Texas Department of Transportation has been out all weekend pretreating roadways and will continue to pretreat with a focus on bridges and highways
- The Electric Reliability Council of Texas has issued a weather watch but expects to be able to meet demands
A warming center will be available and the locations will be shared later if the need arises.

Additional details
The Emergency Operation Center opened Jan. 7 and will stay open throughout the freezing weather.
The EOC is a virtual or physical location where leaders of a jurisdiction or organization coordinate information and resources to support incident management activities. Their responsibilities include:
- Collecting, analyzing and sharing information
- Supporting resource needs and requests, including allocation and tracking
- Coordinating plans and determining current and future needs
