Two road construction projects—one in Keller, the other in Westlake—will ensure that travelers both on foot and in cars continue to make it to their destinations.

Project 1

The SH 114 overpass at Kirkwood/Solana Boulevard in Westlake will be closed during construction hours for one week starting July 17, according to the town’s Facebook page.

Construction will include nighttime closures during hours permitted by the construction contract, which is 8 p.m.-5 a.m. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes.

The project—which is being managed by TxDOT—was initially planned to be completed during the week of July 10 but was postponed until July 17. TxDOT did not respond to questions about funding amount or sources before publication.

Project 2

In Keller, work along Bates Street in Old Town Keller is moving forward.

According to the city’s Facebook page, the arch marking the Hwy. 377 entrance to the street was recently installed. A second arch will be installed on the South Elm Street end of Bates Street as part of the upcoming Elm Street reconstruction project.

Previous Community Impact reporting stated that the Bates Street reconstruction project is an effort by the city to turn the street into a pedestrian-friendly destination that can hold festivals while maintaining connectivity to the city’s west side. Improvements include:
  • Reconstructing the road
  • Replacing the utilities
  • Improving drainage
  • Adding an adjoining park with an elevated pavilion and public art benches
  • Building a median with a pedestrian hybrid beacon and crosswalk along Main Street/US 377 just south of Bates Street
Bates Street reconstruction is part of the city's Old Town Keller Phase 2 project. According to Communication & Public Engagement Manager Rachel Reynolds, the cost for Old Town Keller Phase 2 is about $6.66 million. Funding sources include the city’s general fund, Keller Development Corporation, American Rescue Plan Act, Green Ribbon grants from TxDOT and debt to be issued.

According to the city’s Facebook page, Bates Street reconstruction is slated to be completed by the end of the summer.
