Planned improvements for Shady Grove Road between Keller Smithfield Road South and the eastern edge of Sarah Brooks Drive have closed that corridor to thru traffic.

According to the city’s e-newsletter, detours will direct residents south to North Tarrant Parkway or north to Bear Creek Parkway via Preston Lane until mid-August as crews work to complete construction in front of Shady Grove Elementary School before classes resume for the 2023-24 school year.

The specifics

According to the city’s e-newsletter, planned improvements for the full project include:
  • Repaving the asphalt stretch of Shady Grove Road between Rapp Road and Smithfield Road in the existing two-lane configuration
  • Smoothing the transition across the intersection at Smithfield Road
  • Reconstructing pedestrian ramps and building a 10-foot trail segment from Sarah Brooks Drive to Smithfield Road on the north side of the street
Once construction adjacent to the Shady Grove Elementary campus wraps up, traffic impacts will change, according to the city’s e-newsletter. Weather and site conditions permitting, city officials expect construction to wrap up within six months of breaking ground.
