The details
The WISE scholarship is for senior girls attending high schools in Northwest ISD who plan on becoming a business entrepreneur.
Interested students can apply by submitting a portfolio no later than May 1 that includes:
- An essay
- Examples of involvement with the community
- School achievements and academic records
- Goals and aspirations
“I was the most excited person on the planet when we sat down and looked at those ladies [last year],” WISE President Diana Smith said. “They had such great portfolios.”
The scholarship recipient will be invited to a ceremony and luncheon at the end of July.
The background
WISE started the scholarship in 2024 with only five students applying. Organization leaders are hoping that more students apply and more money is raised this year. They are now considering giving out multiple scholarships.
“We would love to be able to bless more students,” Serralta said. “That is money that is life changing for a college student.”
Last year's winner, Sarah Fraser, received $2,500 and used it for college textbooks.
“The scholarship allowed me to save my graduation and my personal money and set it aside for future use and then use my scholarship money to purchase [the textbooks],” Fraser said.
She is currently a student at University of Texas at Tyler studying nursing with hopes to someday own her own nurse practitioner business after gaining some experience in the field and receiving her masters degree.
What else?
WISE will be hosting different events to raise money towards the scholarship at different locations on Oak Street in downtown Roanoke. Their fundraising events will take place on:
- Feb. 8 at Wine 30 on Oak Street
- April 14 at Wine 30 on Oak Street

All proceeds from the events will go to the scholarship fund.
