The Roanoke City Council approved a specific use permit on Aug. 9 to allow a distillery and tasting room to open at 101 Travis St., Roanoke The area was previously occupied by A Biker’s Garage.

BlackEyed Distilling Company does business under the name Southern Springs Distillery, according to the application filed by Jeff Johnson of Portland, Maine.

City Council approved a zoning change to allow the company to produce, package and sell its alcohol and include a tasting room with the distillery.
