Ahead of the transition of taking over EMS services July 1, the city hired Dr. Jeffrey Jarvis as the EMS medical director during the April 22 Fort Worth City Council meeting. He currently serves as the MedStar Medical Director and will be part of the transition of the services.
The details
Jarvis will make $270,000 annually, part of a 10-year contract, according to city documents. According to his LinkedIn page, he’s been the MedStar director since November 2022 after a similar role for Williamson County EMS in Georgetown.
In the role with the city, Jarvis is charged with providing medical direction and oversight, consultation, training, education, clinical quality assurance and improvement for the EMS System, according to city documents.
His contract will renew year-to-year after 10 years. He will also receive a vehicle allowance of $3,600 annually, city documents show.

In addition, Fort Worth City Council approved vendor service agreements with University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and Integrated Emergency Services Physician Group to provide the city with the Services of Associate Medical Directors for the Office of Medical Director.
The initial agreement will be for three months starting July 1 to Sept. 30. The first renewal will be Oct. 1 to match the city’s fiscal year.
The contract is not to exceed $102,000 a year and $440,000 for renewal terms.
Each associate medical director may be provided with access to city vehicles for the performance of the services as required by the agreements, according to city documents.

According to a city news release, 14 cities have signed on for ambulance services that Fort Worth will provide and allocation costs will be based on use. EMS services will have an $85 million annual budget with anticipated revenues of $65 million.
MedStar will have 617 full-time employees and 40 part-time employees that will become Fort Worth employees on the start date. The city is also looking to hire 75 emergency medical technicians prior to the switch, according to a city news release.
