Roanoke City Council unanimously voted to table the site plan for a restaurant, bar and multi-tenant concept on Oak Street at an Aug.12 regular meeting.

What happened

The site plan was put on hold so that applicant Curtis Young, who is representing owner Mahir Varial, could have more time to revamp the architecture for the buildings, City Manager Cody Petree said.

The site plan was originally tabled at the July 8 City Council meeting so Young could bring a more fleshed out proposal to council members, according to previous reporting.

City Council did not set a date for when the item will be brought back for consideration.

The details

The proposed development includes two buildings. One building will face US 377 and will include a 5,180-square-foot store called Liquor King on the first floor and a 4,750-square-foot bar lounge on the second floor, according to city documents.

The site plan shows the second building will face Oak Street and include a 4,000-square-foot undetermined restaurant on the first floor and a 4,000-square-foot bar with patio on the second floor.

The liquor store and bar lounge will be constructed where Goat and Raven used to be and 58 parking spots will be created for the development, according to city documents.

Also of note

A request for the development of a community of townhomes was on the Aug. 12 agenda but no action was taken by City Council because the Roanoke Planning and Zoning Commission requested a joint workshop with City Council.

At the workshop, the two groups will discuss the townhome development and the city’s vision for townhomes, Roanoke Development Services Administrator JR Hames said. The tentative workshop date is Sept. 9.

The development encompasses 13.79 acres northeast of Marshall Creek Road and US 377, per city documents. The plan includes 164 units, one amenity center and an outdoor swimming pool.
