The breakdown
During their April 1 regular meeting, Keller City Council members approved a trial period of open play for KSAC members to play pickleball in The Keller Pointe gym on Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., which will begin immediately.

Director of Community Services Cody Mayberry said as part of his staff’s KSAC analysis, they looked at usage trends, specifically on Tuesday nights when the center is open until 8 p.m.
“Between 3:30 p.m. and 8 p.m., the attendance drops off substantially,” Mayberry said. “From 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. we average four people coming in, [from] 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., its four people, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., its two people. Anything after 6:30, [we average] less than two people.”
What they’re saying
“Pickleball remains very popular at the senior center; in fact, it's the most popular free program that utilizes the gym,” Mayberry said. “At The Keller Pointe, there are times when the gym is underutilized.”
Several KSAC members showed up April 1 to listen to the discussions. They touted the many benefits of pickleball, including physical, mental and social.
Frank Roszell, who ran for city council in 2024, said a friend of his was able to meet more than 300 people through playing pickleball.
Mayberry said due to summer programming at The Keller Pointe, the open play hours will be effective from Labor Day until Memorial Day.
