Fort Worth Animal Care and Control is recognizing military veterans and service members through its PAWS for Patriots by providing an opportunity for them to impact their lives and the lives of shelter pets.

According to a city news release, details for the event are as follows:
  • When: Nov. 16
  • Time: noon to 5 p.m.
  • Where: North Animal Campus, 350 Hillshire Drive, Fort Worth
As part of the event, the news release states free pet vaccines will be available for service members and veterans, along with resource bags to take home.

According to the news release, many veterans face significant challenges during their transition back to civilian life. These obstacles include stress, anxiety and depression. Participants in the PAWS for Patriots have the opportunity to engage in therapeutic activities, which include:
  • Engaging in socialization, training and exercise for shelter animals
  • Joining a community that values discipline and commitment
  • Experiencing the therapeutic benefits of working with animals
Attendees are encouraged to bring their leashed pets to the event, per the news release. Food trucks will also be on site.
