During an Oct. 21 meeting, Westlake Town Council approved up to $85,000 to refresh pavement markings along three roads in town.

What happened?

Council members approved an agreement with Grand Prairie-based Stripe-a-zone to restripe portions of Dove Road, Ottinger Road and North Pearson Lane. The restriping is estimated to cost $59,240 though contingency funds were approved for additional markings that may be needed throughout the year.

The agreement is funded by money from the Public Works department’s street maintenance fund in the fiscal year 2024-25 budget.

Council members also authorized up to $100,000 for purchase of new water meters and utility parts from Atlas Utility Supply Company based in Haltom City.

The resolution allows town staff to purchase water meters and parts as needed while maintaining Westlake’s water and wastewater infrastructure. Under the agreement, town officials will purchase meters for new residential developments nearing completion such as the Villagio development, according to a staff presentation.

The Public Works department is also implementing a water meter changeout program for the first time in FY 2024-25, Director Cheryl Taylor said. Officials aim to repair or replace about 50 meters this year, she said.

Westlake has about 1,100 water meters across residential and commercial developments, she said.

The department currently has two employees to perform onsite maintenance on the town’s water and wastewater infrastructure. Two more employees are expected to be hired in the coming months, Taylor said.
