According to it's website, the Texas Municipal League provides service to Texas communities by representing cities before legislative, administrative and judicial bodies at the state and federal levels.
The board of regional directors consists of 15 people, all mayors or councilman of their respective cities, to represent their region. McKenzie is a council member for the city of Hurst and would represent Region 8 in the Fort Worth area if elected. Each Texas Municipal League member city is entitled to one vote, according to the ballot sent to Roanoke and other cities within Region 8.
Mayor Scooter Gierisch recommended McKenzie after a personal letter was sent to him asking for Roanoke’s support.
“Jon McKenzie is a long-time council member in the city of Hurst, and he's been very involved in the Texas Municipal League,” Gierisch said.
The details
McKenzie is currently serving on the Board of Directors for Region 8 and has been serving in the Texas Municipal League leadership positions for three years, he said in an email to the city. McKenzie has served as a council member with the city of Hurst for seven years, according to the email. Additionally, he works full time as a minister at Bridgewood Church of Christ.
“Our church allows me the flexibility in schedule to attend these meetings that have taken place in Austin, Beaumont, Dallas and our neighboring city of North Richland Hills,” McKenzie said.

The Texas Municipal League conducts elections for the regional board of directors every year, with odd numbered districts falling on odd years and even numbered districts falling on even years, according to the Texas Municipal League's website. Three other candidates were on the district eight board of directors ballot. All votes must be sent in by Oct. 3, according to the ballot. The term for the even-numbered districts Texas Municipal League directors will begin Oct. 11, 2024 and end Nov. 13, 2026, said city documents.
