Roanoke City Council members unanimously voted to move forward with the Green Scaping Construction plan for the Highway 377 landscape development project Sept. 10.

The gist

The project includes scenic enhancements of trees, shrubs, ground covers and irrigation systems from Denton Street to Parish Lane at a cost of $408,544.

The Green Ribbon program, a state-funded initiative dedicated to improving state highways, will dedicate about $350,430 to the project, and council members approved for the city to provide the remaining funding.

The construction team doesn’t anticipate any significant road closures, though there may be some lane closures throughout the project, Communications and Public Engagement Administrator Carissa Katekaru told Community Impact.

She said council members will meet soon to discuss at timeline for the beautification initiative.
