Most of the city of Fort Worth’s offices will be closed Dec. 25 for the Christmas holiday. However, emergency services—such as police and fire—will remain on duty as usual.

The details

According to a city news release, several city services will be modified due to the holiday. These include:
  • Solid waste collection: There will be no garbage, recycling, yard waste or bulk trash collection on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Collection schedules will be temporarily adjusted from Dec. 25-Jan. 6. Bulk waste collections resume Dec. 26, and normal collection schedules resume Monday, Jan. 8. All residents are allowed two extra bags of garbage next to the cart on their first pickup day following each holiday. Temporary holiday collection schedules will shift to the following day.
  • Drop-off stations: All drop-off stations and the Environmental Collection Center will be closed Dec. 25 and then reopen Dec. 26. They will close again on New Year’s Day and reopen Jan. 2.
  • Pet adoption centers: North Animal Campus as well as Chuck & Brenda Silcox Animal Care & Adoption Center will be open Dec. 24 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. for intakes and noon-6 p.m. for adoptions. Both sites will be closed Dec. 25 and then resume normal operations Dec. 26. Both Hulen and Alliance PetSmart Adoption Centers will open from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Dec. 24. Both centers will be closed Christmas Day and then reopen Dec. 26, from 9 a.m.-8 p.m.
  • Libraries: All Fort Worth Public Library locations will be closed Dec. 24 and 25.
  • Golf: All municipal golf courses will be closed Christmas Day and resume regular operating hours Dec. 26.
  • Trinity Metro: The public transportation service will have modified hours during the holidays. Click here to view the modified schedule.
