The project costs are not to exceed $4 million, with Phase 1 having an estimated cost of $1.1 million and Phase 2 with a planned cost of $2.8 million.
The community pool, located at 500 Parkview Drive, was constructed in 2003, and a splash pad was added in 2011, according to Parks and Recreation Director Tony Jaramillo. He noted some of the infrastructure is outdated or obsolete.
Phase 1 could start as soon as the end of November, Jaramillo noted. The pump rooms for the competition pool, kiddie pool and splash pad would be updated in the initial work.
The pirate-themed splash pad would be repainted, and interior restroom upgrades are slated, contingent upon scheduling conflict.
Jaramillo told the council Phase 1 renovations should be complete prior to the opening of the upcoming season, slated for May 29, 2023. A contingency plan, he said, would be to not open in 2023, but he added, "we plan to open on time."
Phase 2 is scheduled to begin after the pool closes in 2023 and be completed prior to the 2024 season opening.
The kiddie pool would turn into a 30-foot-by-45-foot double-barrel slide tower that flows into a 3.5-foot-deep plunge pool. A shaded pavilion, measuring 40 feet by 30 feet, would be added near the splash pad. A climate-controlled party room with a covered porch and roll-up garage door would be added, which would be available for rentals year-round. Jaramillo said there would be a small kitchen and restroom inside the building, which would be north of the pool.
The addition of the plunge pool would allow the town to provide more programming, such as water aerobics and swim lessons.
Phase 2 would be completed by Dec. 29, 2023.
