Two candidates are running for a Roanoke City Council Ward 2 seat for the upcoming May 2 local election.

Roanoke City Council called a special election at the Jan. 27 meeting to fill the vacated council positions for Ward 1 and Ward 2. Former council members Bryan Moyers and Hogan Page stepped down because they are moving out of Roanoke and can no longer serve on council, according to previous reporting.
Candidates Jonathan Ackmann and Ernie Adams now are vying for the council seat.
Roanoke is a home-ruled city with the city divided into three wards with two council members serving each ward, according to the city charter. Only residents living in that ward may vote on the elected official for that area.
Early voting for the May 2 special election will run from April 20-28. Residents can check if they are registered to vote at the Denton County website. Polling locations for Denton County are currently unavailable.
