Trophy Club Town Council approved holding elections on May 7 to renew the crime control and prevention district and street maintenance tax.

Council unanimously voted Feb. 8 to hold the two special elections in conjunction with the regular May 7 election.

The first measure will ask voters to reauthorize the town’s crime control and prevention district and its 0.25% sales-and-use tax for another 20 years.

According to the agenda item’s memo, the district's sales tax was last reauthorized in 2018. The tax provides funding for Trophy Club Police Department equipment and training.

The ballot will ask Trophy Club voters to decide “whether the Town of Trophy Club Crime Control and Prevention District should be continued for 20 years and the crime control prevention district sales tax should be continued for 20 years.”

The town will also ask voters whether to renew the municipal sales-and-use tax of 0.25% for street maintenance, which will expire on Sept. 30, according to the agenda item’s memo. Residents will vote on whether to continue the tax for another 10 years.

Trophy Club collects about $300,000 annually in sales tax for street repairs and maintenance, the memo states. The 0.25% tax for street maintenance is included as part of the 8.25% sales tax collected within the town.

The proposition asks whether to reauthorize "the local sales and use tax in the Town of Trophy Club at the rate of one-fourth of one percent (0.25%) to continue providing revenue for maintenance and repair of municipal streets.”

In addition to the special elections, Trophy Club Town Council Places 5 and 6 are up for election on May 7. LuAnne Oldham holds Place 5, and Philip Shoffner holds Place 6. Oldham has filed for re-election in Place 5, while Stephen Flynn and Wendie Bailey have filed for Place 6, Trophy Club’s website states.
