The Texas Education Agency released results from this year’s State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness end-of-course exams, the year-end exam issued to high school students each spring, and the spring 2026 results for grades 3-8.
Students at Northwest ISD and Keller ISD both scored better than the state average in every subject for end-of-course exams, according to test results.
STAAR results for both districts show grades 3-8 performed better than the state overall in reading and social studies and mostly outpaced the average Texas results in math.
By the numbers
High school students were tested on the following subjects:
- Algebra I
- Biology
- English I
- English II
- U.S History
At least 82% of NISD students passed each subject, and at least 85% of KISD students passed each subject, according to the results
For grades 3-8, students were tested on the following subjects:
- Mathematics
- Reading
- Social studies
In math, most grades in both districts outperformed the state. In reading, NISD and KISD students outperformed the state across all grades.
Only eighth grade students in this age group are tested for social studies. Northwest ISD and Keller ISD performed better in this category than the state average.
Why it mattersThe STAAR is administered to students in grades 3-12 each spring to measure student progress and teacher performance.
Students who don’t pass one or more subjects on the STAAR receive accelerated instruction the following school year, according to state law.
Poor STAAR scores can also impact the district as a whole.
The TEA’s annual accountability ratings are largely based on STAAR scores. If a district or individual school receives a failing accountability rating for multiple consecutive years, the state can take control of the district.

Parents can view their child’s individual score at texasassessment.gov using a unique access code distributed by their child’s school.
