Dr. Cory Wilson, who has served as Keller ISD’s interim superintendent since January, was named the only finalist in the district’s superintendent search during a special meeting June 5.

The details

According to a district news release, a state-mandated 21-day waiting period now follows before Wilson can be officially hired to the position. At that time, the board is expected to officially name him the superintendent.

Before being named interim superintendent, Wilson served the district for more than 20 years, most recently as assistant superintendent of education services.

He was named interim superintendent during a contentious board meeting Jan. 30 after weeks of controversy in the community regarding a possible plan to split the district.

Former Superintendent Tracy Johnson told the board at a Jan. 16 special meeting she was prepared to offer her letter of resignation after speaking out against the plan, saying it wasn’t “right for kids.” Johnson’s voluntary resignation was ultimately accepted by the board Feb. 20.

The news release states Wilson has 27 years of experience in education, 23 of which have been in Keller ISD. He began teaching fifth-grade math and science at Parkwood Hill Intermediate School in 2002 and moved into administration in 2004 as the first assistant principal at Bette Perot Elementary School.

His leadership roles in KISD include:
  • Principal of BPES
  • Principal of Ridgeview Elementary School
  • Executive director of leadership
  • Assistant superintendent of elementary schools
  • Area superintendent
What they’re saying

“The board has been pleased with Dr. Wilson's performance during his time as interim superintendent and we are excited for the future of KISD under his leadership,” Board President John Birt said.
