Breaking it down
The district said in a social media post that the groundbreaking will take place “this week” though an exact date wasn’t given. The post states that “the school will feature our standard focus on top-tier academic spaces, including areas for specialized career training and collaboration.”
Renderings were revealed of the high school, which show a football field, tennis courts and the design of the multi-level school.
The campus will be located on North Riverside Drive near Highway 170 and I-35.
The backstory
The district is using money from the May 2023 bond that voters passed to fund the construction of the new high school, a package worth nearly $2 billion that will construct 12 new schools and additional facilities.
Voters agreed to pass all the props on the ballot in the election, according to the district.
NISD continues to be one of the fastest growing in North Texas and is forecasted to enroll more than 38,700 students by the 2029-30 school year, from 32,022 the 2024-25 school year, according to previous reporting.
Currently, the school is addressing a $16 million shortfall and is contemplating budget cuts for the 2025-26 school year, Community Impact previously reported.
