The backstory
The instructional calendar is developed to meet the teaching and learning needs of students and staff every year, according to district documents.
School districts must provide 75,600 operational minutes in order to receive full average daily attendance funding, according to the Texas Education Agency. Average daily attendance is the sum of attendance counts divided by the days of instruction.
According to district documents, staff takes the following points into consideration when developing the academic calendar:
- Teacher contracted days/professional development days
- State and district assessment days
- Surrounding districts’ calendars, including Tarrant County College
- Start and end days of major holiday breaks
- Previous input from students, staff and the community
