Members of the Keller ISD board unanimously approved the 2025-26 instructional calendar during their regular meeting Dec. 19.

What you need to know

The 2025-26 calendar includes the following notable dates:
  • Aug. 13, 2025, start of fall semester
  • Oct. 13-17, 2025, fall break
  • Nov. 24-28, 2025, Thanksgiving break
  • Dec. 22, 2025-Jan. 2, 2026, winter break
  • March 16-20, 2026, spring break
  • May 21, 2026, end of spring semester
A district news release states the calendar includes state-required banked minutes for two instructional days that may be lost due to bad weather. Should inclement weather force school closings, those banked minutes will be used instead of making up the day.

Additional student holidays include Labor Day, MLK Jr. Day, Presidents Day and Good Friday.

The backstory

The instructional calendar is developed to meet the teaching and learning needs of students and staff every year, according to district documents.

School districts must provide 75,600 operational minutes in order to receive full average daily attendance funding, according to the Texas Education Agency. Average daily attendance is the sum of attendance counts divided by the days of instruction.

According to district documents, staff takes the following points into consideration when developing the academic calendar:
  • Teacher contracted days/professional development days
  • State and district assessment days
  • Surrounding districts’ calendars, including Tarrant County College
  • Start and end days of major holiday breaks
  • Previous input from students, staff and the community
