Northwest ISD board of trustees approved extending Dr. Mark Foust’s contract by one year during their regular meeting Dec. 9.

The details

Executive Director of Communications Anthony Tosie said the district’s standard practice is to maintain a three-year contract with a superintendent, so the action extends the existing contract to run from Jan. 10, 2025, to Jan. 9, 2028.

The board had previously extended Foust’s contract to end Jan. 22, 2027.

What they’re saying

Place 2 Board Member Mark Schluter thanked Foust for all his hard work with the district.

“You drink from the fire hose every day, you live in a bonfire and you get a lot of things done,” Schluter said. “You and your staff are incredible and we greatly appreciate you being here.”

Foust acknowledged that his success is largely due to his team and district staff.

“From the folks on this dais to the team I get to work with to the teachers in the classroom, I’m the one in the room that’s blessed,” Foust said.

The backstory

Foust, who was hired by the board at its Dec. 12, 2022, meeting, filled the role held by former Superintendent David Hicks, who died suddenly Sept. 9, 2022.

Michael Griffin was appointed interim superintendent following the death of Hicks, who was in his first year working for the district.
