The details
According to a district news release, the three newly named buildings are:
- Dr. Leigh Anne Romer Elementary School - named after a former longtime principal, the school will be located in the Madero community in Fort Worth and is scheduled to open in August 2026
- Floyd Barksdale Middle School - named for a former community member who served on the school board and was active in youth events, this new school will be located near the Pecan Square community in Northlake and is scheduled to open in August 2026
- Dennis McCreary Multipurpose Facility - named after a former administrator who led facilities and growth planning, this repurposed building is near Northwest High School and Pike Middle School and is scheduled to open in November
In other news
The Northwest ISD Board of Trustees also approved five inductees to the district's Legacy Wall. These new honorees are:
- Dr. David Hicks - a former superintendent
- Nathan Gage Ingram - a former student, Ingram was a U.S. Navy SEAL who sacrificed his life attempting to save a fellow SEAL in a combat operation off the coast of Somalia in January 2024
- Don Laird - an active community volunteer and district fundraiser
- Shay McDonald - a former teacher at Granger Elementary School
- Bill “Bear” Nelson - a former teacher at Northwest High School
- To honor individuals who have left a positive mark on the district
- To serve as an inspiration for other teachers and staff to do the same
