The details
According to the organization’s website, DI provides an opportunity for students to work together in teams of two to seven to solve open-ended challenges with original solutions. The competition is designed to teach the creative process in the following areas:
- Science
- Technology
- Engineering
- Arts
- Mathematics
Students will select a challenge to work on as a team over the course of a few months and then present their solution to a panel of appraisers at the DI regional tournament Feb. 22, according to the district news release.
The DI website says that those student who participate benefit in the following ways:
- 86% of DI students agree that their teamwork skills improved
- 10% higher scores in critical thinking assessments by DI students
- 70% of students reported they “do better in school” because of DI
