In accordance with guidance from the Texas Board of Nursing, Keller ISD nursing staff will be changing how it administers over-the-counter medication to students.

The details

According to a district news release, Keller ISD nursing staff have administered over-the-counter medication supplied by a student’s parent/guardian for less than 10 days with only parent/guardian consent needed. But beginning in the 2024-25 school year, over-the-counter medications given by the district’s nursing staff will require both parent/guardian consent and a physician authorization.

Zooming in

The news release states all medications require a physician’s authorization annually, including over-the-counter and prescription medications.

According to the news release, the most up-to-date medication authorization forms can be found here. Questions or concerns about the new medication policy can be addressed to Jodi Webster, Keller ISD Director of Health Services, at 817-744-1241 or [email protected].
