Northwest ISD officials are no longer using a security firm hired to protect five of its elementary campuses after the owner of the firm was arrested for sexually assaulting a child.

The details

Anthony Tosie, executive director of communications for the district, said in an email that NISD received notification of the arrest of Kirk Stanley Grable, owner of Lone Star Protection & Security, in late July for the sexual assault of a child.

“Grable has never worked at any district school, and we have no records that he has ever visited a district school or interacted with a Northwest ISD student,” Tosie said. “The protection of our students is our top priority, and we take any allegations of danger to children seriously.”

Tosie said the district has informed Lone Star Protection & Security that its services will not be used going forward.

“We have additional companies we contract armed guards from, and we will continue to use them,” Tosie said.

The backstory

The NISD board of trustees voted unanimously during the Aug. 15, 2023, regular meeting to enter into contracts for security guard services with five different companies, including Lone Star Protection & Security for the district’s 22 elementary schools.

Superintendent Mark Foust said at that meeting the need to contract with the companies came as a response to House Bill 3, which requires school boards in Texas to ensure at least one armed security officer is present during regular school hours at each campus.
