The details
Osborne’s progress report included the following four facilities:
- Northwest High School additions and renovations
- Pike Middle School replacement
- New Perrin Elementary School
- New NISD administration building
Osborne reported that renovations to Northwest High School will be completed in phases throughout the remainder of the 2023-24 and 2024-25 school years, with all projects estimated to be completed by summer 2025.
When it comes to the new facility replacing Pike Middle School, Osborne said that it is “making great progress.” He said that the bulk of what remains is site work on the outside of the building.
In terms of the interior, Osborne said that crews have made significant progress in the past month. The estimated completion is scheduled for August, and Osborne said that 90% of it should be finished before the end of the 2023-24 school year.
Once the new school is complete and ready for use, Osborne said the existing school will be torn down except for the competition gym, which will be used as a district-wide facility.
At Perrin Elementary School, which is the district’s 23rd elementary school, Osborne pointed out that in the collaboration spaces, the architects were able to be a bit creative with their tile designs.
Quote of note
“I really appreciate how the architects are able to give each one of these schools their own character with the finishes,” Osborne said.
Perrin Elementary School, which is located in the Wildflower Ranch community, is slated to open in August and has the capacity to hold approximately 850 students, per the Northwest ISD construction website.
As far as the new administration building goes, dirt has been moved and the building pad has been prepped for initial construction. Osborne said that the goal is to start drilling piers in the next week or two. Work has also begun on the additional parking lot that will service the new administration building.
