Keller ISD board members voted unanimously Feb. 29 to pay for several "unforeseen" items at Parkview Elementary School and Whitley Road Elementary School.

The details

Parkview and Whitley Road, two schools that have recently replaced existing campuses in Keller ISD as part of the district’s 2019 bond, will need some extra work.

“As we moved forward, a number of items that were unforeseen have risen that required us to exceed our allowances,” said Rola Fadel, the district’s executive director of bond and construction services.

These unforeseen items at both campuses include:
  • Replacing traditional casework with modular furniture
  • Providing pier casings where water was encountered
An additional expense of $103,435 at Whitley Road is to provide additional structural reinforcement at the existing gym.

Total costs of the change orders at both schools came to just under $840,000. Costs at each school school are as follows:
  • $414,076.99 for Parkview Elementary School
  • $425,037.42 for Whitley Road Elementary School
A closer look

Fadel said that money for the change orders would come from leftover funds in the district’s $315 million 2019 bond. She added that the district has close to $3 million left to spend from that surplus.

By approving change orders for both schools, the total construction cost of Parkview rose from $26.7 million to $27.1 million. Whitley Road construction cost increased from $25.3 million to $25.7 million.

Parkview moved into the new building Jan. 3, 2023, while Whitley Road began the 2022-23 school year at the new building.
