To stay competitive with surrounding districts, Northwest ISD board of trustees approved a $3 an hour raise for bus drivers at their Oct. 9 meeting.

The details

According to district documents, Northwest ISD’s starting pay rates are the lowest in the area.

“We are starting to see the impact of that as our applicant list is shrinking and we have lost drivers to surrounding districts that are paying the higher rates,” the document states.

The starting rate for NISD bus drivers be increased from $20 per hour to $23 per hour, and all current bus drivers and office staff who continue to drive will receive a $3 per hour increase to their existing hourly rate, effective Oct. 9.

Below are some other area district bus driver hourly rates, according to Northwest ISD documents:
  • Denton ISD: $23 per hour
  • Fort Worth: $22.50 per hour
  • Eagle Mountain Saginaw ISD: $21.75 per hour
  • Keller: $20 per hour with a $1,000 sign-on bonus
Quote of note

“We would love to add 25 additional bus drivers to address some of the 700 students that have enrolled since the beginning of school,” Superintendent Mark Foust said. “So we’ll continue to actively recruit, and we think that moving from $20 to $23 will be helpful in doing that.”
