The renamed building was unveiled the same day following a Commissioners Court meeting.
Maenius announced in June he will retire Sept. 30 after 35 years of service. According to the release, Maenius is the only county administrator to serve the county and is the longest-serving county administrator in the history of Texas, beginning his term in 1988.
Background
The administration building was established in 1980 and is where Commissioners Court meetings have been held since. Maenius has seen the county population double during his tenure, going from 1.1 million in 1988 to 2.2 million this year. He has worked under four county judges and overseen a government of 4,600 employees with an estimated operating budget of $900 million, according to the news release.
