Northwest ISD has promoted Donna Busby to become principal of Haslet Elementary School.

The backstory

According to a district news release, Busby served as assistant principal of Nance Elementary School. She previously served in the same role at Thompson Elementary School. She has served as an assistant principal for seven years and has served Northwest ISD students and families for almost 20 years after joining the district in 2005 as a teacher.

The news release also states that her new position brings Busby back to the school where she began her career in Northwest ISD. Busby served as both a teacher and intervention specialist at Haslet for more than a decade before advancing to leadership positions at other district schools.

In addition to her role as a district employee, Busby also has the experience in the role of a parent of former Haslet students, the news release states. Both her children graduated from Northwest ISD.

According to the news release, Busby has earned accolades for her teaching abilities and leadership skills. She was the Exemplar Educator for Haslet during the 2014-15 school year, and she has presented at multiple national leadership conferences.


Busby earned her master’s degree in educational administration from Lamar University and her bachelor’s degree in psychology and social work from Texas Woman’s University.
