Northwest ISD will start two building projects in Roanoke in December, according to filings with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

Roanoke Elementary and J. Lyndal Hughes Elementary are both seeing additions as part of the $745 million bond passed by residents within the NISD boundaries in 2021.

Roanoke Elementary, located at 1401 Lancelot Drive, will have an addition to the building. The project has an estimated start date of Dec. 1 and a completion date of Aug. 1, 2023. The $1.9 million addition will add two pre-K classrooms with a single-use shared restroom; new playground resurfacing and equipment; carpet replacement in the original building; and a corridor to connect the existing school to the addition. The total work will cover 2,541 square feet.

Hughes Elementary, located at 13824 Lost Spurs Road, has the same timeline as the other project. The estimated cost is $6.2 million and covers a 2,585-square-foot addition of two pre-K classrooms, adding a corridor and vestibule to the existing school, landscape additions, new playground resurfacing and equipment, reroofing, and replacing HVAC units on the original building.

Hughes Elementary is named after NISD's first superintendent, who served from 1949-57. He died in 2008. www.nisdtx.org
