Northwest ISD officials are seeking public input in naming a new elementary school that will open in 2024.

During the NISD board meeting Oct. 17, the board announced plans to allow the public to help name the 23rd elementary school in district, located in the Wildflower Ranch community off Hwy. 114 in Justin.

Construction will start next year and is funded from the 2021 bond package. The school will help relieve the nearby Hatfield and Love elementary schools. The newest school will open at the start of the 2024-25 school year. The design will be similar to the ones used for Lance Thompson and Berkshire elementary schools.

NISD will use this naming process to compile names for the next four elementary schools that will be built to handle the accelerated growth in the district in future years.

Board policy requires that names meet one of three criteria to be considered by the naming committee: memory of any person who made a significant contribution to society and/or education and his or her name shall lend prestige and status; state or national heroic figure, landmark and/or historical attributes; or a district property donor or his/her family members.

Names of living individuals will not be accepted, the district said.

Any submission that does not meet one of the board criteria will be discarded, according to the school. Submissions can be made online or by calling the NISD communication department for a paper form at 817-215-0171.
