O.A. Peterson Elementary School and Kay Granger Elementary School are both seeing additions to the existing buildings, part of a $745 million bond passed by residents within the NISD boundaries in 2021.
Peterson Elementary is located at 2000 Winter Hawk Drive, Fort Worth. The project has an estimated start date of Dec. 1 and a completion date of Aug. 1, 2023. The $1.9 million addition will add two pre-K classrooms with a single-use shared restroom, new playground resurfacing and equipment, carpet replacement in the original building and a corridor to connect the existing school to the addition. The total work will cover 2,541 square feet.
Kay Granger Elementary, at 12771 Saratoga Springs Circle, Fort Worth, has a similar construction date and cost as Peterson Elementary. The project includes two pre-K classrooms with a single-use shared restroom, new playground resurfacing and equipment and a corridor to connect the existing school to the addition. The Granger work will cover 2,494 square feet.
Granger is named after former teacher and politician Kay Granger, the first female mayor of Fort Worth and the first female Republican from Texas elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. Peterson is named after Omas Anthony "O.A." Peterson, a local rancher who was on the first board of trustees for NISD, serving from 1949-54. www.nisdtx.org
