The Northwest ISD board of trustees approved the purchase of a new warehouse, which will help the district accommodate its substantial growth.

At its June 13 meeting, the board approved the purchase agreement as part of the consent agenda. The warehouse facility is located in 114 Industrial LLC in Rhome, according to the building’s assessment.

The 33,500-square-foot facility will be purchased along with 5.05 acres of land located to the west of the facility and north of Highway 114 in Wise County, the agenda item’s memo states. In total, the facility and land will cost $4.1 million and be funded out of the district’s 2021 bond program.

“This facility will relieve the enormous stress on our current warehouse and storage containers that does not properly equip the district for receiving and storage of materials to support the rapid growth of NISD,” the memo states.

Northwest ISD is the fastest-growing school district in North Texas. According to a demographer’s report at the Northwest ISD board of trustees May 23 meeting, the district is projected to add 2,542 more students next school year.

Tim McClure, NISD assistant superintendent for facilities, told Community Impact Newspaper that the district is currently using a repurposed gym facility that has limited warehouse features. The 114 Industrial facility will be the district’s first “dedicated warehouse building.”

“The new warehouse will provide Northwest ISD with a true warehouse and distribution center,” McClure said. “This facility offers enough capacity to handle the district’s current needs as well as room for expansion as the district continues to grow. As the fastest-growing district in North Texas, keeping up with the amount of products and materials needed to meet the demand of ever-increasing student populations will be an ongoing priority for our district.”
