E.A. Young Academy, a private school for students in kindergarten through 12th grade, will be opening in Roanoke.

Roanoke City Council voted unanimously at a Feb. 22 meeting to approve a zoning change from business park zoning to business park – specific use permit district zoning, which green-lights the project.

The academy, which has another location in North Richland Hills, is a not-for-profit school aimed toward “gifted, talented and high ability scholars,” according to Roanoke city documents.

Students interested in attending must apply and be accepted by an admissions committee, which will consider students based on a number of factors, including cognitive assessment scores, previous academic records, personal references and more, according to the academy’s website.

The school offers small class sizes, a student-to-teacher ratio of 1:6 and a variety of “distinguished” and AP courses, according to city documents.

The E.A. Young Academy will be located at 608 Henrietta Creek Road in a pre-existing building.

Information on when the academy would be open for enrollment has not yet been released.
