The Northwest ISD board of trustees agreed to pay hourly employees who could not come to work when the district shut down all schools for two days in February for the winter storm.

On Feb. 14, trustees unanimously approved paying all employees who were instructed not to work because of the closure in order to make up for the wages lost both days, according to the agenda item’s memo.

Northwest ISD closed all schools and facilities Feb. 3-4 due to winter weather.

The memo states that wages for hourly employees for the two days off total $200,000, but it will not affect Northwest ISD’s payroll budget for the 2021-22 school year.

Similar to the resolution the board approved on Jan. 24 to pay employees for wages lost during the COVID-19-induced shutdown Jan. 14 and 18, the Feb. 14 resolution applies to all regular employees—not just hourly. NISD Executive Director of Communications Anthony Tosie said other full-time employee pay is already covered by contracts.
