Stephanie Espinosa, NISD executive director for curriculum and staff development, presented the proposed calendar to the board, noting that it is almost a “carbon copy” of the 2021-22 calendar.
“We continued to get other feedback from teachers that they liked the way the calendar has been built the last few years,” Espinosa said.
The proposed first day of school for the 2022-23 school year is Aug. 17, while the last day is on May 25, according to the calendar. As for breaks, Nov. 21-25 is the proposed Thanksgiving break, Dec. 19-30 would be Christmas break and March 13-17 would be spring break. Students and staff will also have holidays on Oct. 31, Sept. 5, Jan. 16 and Feb. 20.
State and local guidelines require NISD to develop instructional calendars that include 75,600 instructional minutes, two snow days, 187 teacher days, a minimum of 420-minute school days and up to 2,100 minutes of professional learning, according to Espinosa’s presentation.
The NISD board of trustees will not officially vote on the calendar until its Jan. 24 meeting.
