With school districts closed to on-campus learning through at least May 4, officials with Keller ISD and Northwest ISD have found solutions to serve students who rely on school meals.

Each district, along with their food service providers, have adapted weekly meal service into drive-thru and curbside operations in order to limit contact between district staff, parents and children.

Officials with Northwest ISD Food Service are also making daily menu changes depending on the availability of some items, and Keller ISD Food Service provider Sodexo is being assisted by district health services staff to ensure food is handled safely with proper protective equipment, Assistant Superintendent Dustin Blank said.

For Keller ISD students, meals are available Mon.-Fri. from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at 11 campus sites. According to the district, meals include protein, grains, fruit and vegetables, with milk as an option.

Parents are asked to remain in their vehicle during meal pickup. Meals are available for any student in the district, including those not on free or reduced meal plans.

In Northwest ISD, meals for students are available via curbside pickup Mon.-Fri. from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Breakfast and lunch meals will be distributed together, and any student under 18 is eligible for meals at no cost, according to the district.

NISD officials are complying with regulations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Meals are served outside of the designated school pickup location, and parents and students are asked not to congregate or participate in group meals.
