The details
From Aug. 4-Sept. 8, participating Keller restaurants, local retail stores and family entertainment businesses will offer 5% cash back through the Open Rewards app, city officials said.
By downloading the free app, customers can view the participating businesses and automatically earn 5% cashback on purchases.
Participants cannot earn more than $50 of cashback per transaction and cannot earn more than $100 total per user, said Ana Erwin, Keller's assistant director of economic development.
The city set aside $50,000 from hotel occupancy taxes to fund the program and data is being collected on how successful the program is for the city, officials said.
The program can end early if funds are fully distributed.
The background
The Open Rewards app is managed by Bludot, which focuses on local economic development in small- to mid sized communities, according to its website.
Keller City Council launched the program after nearby cities like North Richland Hills and Southlake started similar ones, Rachel Reynolds, Keller’s communication and public engagement manager, said.
“[The program] is not just targeting residents and encouraging them to spend their dollars here, it is also encouraging people outside of our community to come into our community,” Reynolds said.
The city-wide rewards program will also offer 10% cash back during Keller’s restaurant week through the same Open Rewards app, Community Impact previously reported. Keller restaurant week is from July 28-Aug. 3.
