Taylor Sheridan, the owner of SGS Studios, will be launching a production campus in the Alliance area of Fort Worth.

What's happening

According to a news release from Aug. 13, development company Hillwood announced a partnership with SGS Studios to operate and oversee all production services, bringing film and television production to AllianceTexas.

The 450,000-square-foot building will support four current productions in collaboration with Paramount Television, according to a news release.

"This partnership between Hillwood and SGS Studios is an exciting moment for Fort Worth and District 10,” Fort Worth council member Alan Blaylock posted on his Facebook page. “As the largest operating studio facility in Texas, the project will create quality jobs, attract talent, and boost local businesses while showcasing our city as a premier destination for media production."

Zooming in

SGS's two-building campus offers fully HVAC-equipped and power-optimized facilities that combine sound stages, mill space, wardrobe and green screen capabilities into a unified operational footprint, according to a news release.

Filming on the campus, the largest operating studio facility in Texas, began in March with the second season of "Landman."

“SGS Studios isn’t just about sound stages or incentives—it’s about reclaiming the independence and grit that built this industry in the first place,” said Sheridan, who is the producer of shows like “Yellowstone,” “Landman” and “1883.” “Texas offers something rare: the space to dream big, the freedom to build fast, and a community that still believes storytelling matters. We are building something permanent that will be the centerpiece for one of the most state-of-the-art studios in the business.”

The background

SGS has partnered with Tarrant County College to offer job training programs in set construction, grip and electric, post-production and stage operations. To date, the programs have trained more than 150 students, with continued growth anticipated to 300 students, according to a news release.

The project received designation as a Media Production Development Zone (MPDZ) from the city of Fort Worth in December 2024 to designate a location at 2701 Spirit Drive, to be in the MPDZ. That allows for a two-year sales tax and use tax exemption for construction, maintenance, expansion, improvement, or renovation of a media production facility at a qualified media production location in a designated area, according to previous reporting.

Going forward

The partnership between Hillwood, Sheridan and Paramount will lead to the first master-planned studio campus within the AllianceTexas footprint with a full-service production destination designed to anchor long-term industry growth.

The studios will be the first of several campuses planned across Hillwood’s 27,000-acre AllianceTexas development, each featuring additional sound stages, post-production suites, vendor support and scalable infrastructure, according to the news release.

What else?

A filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation shows a $1.83 million project was registered May 5 for new insulation added to a production studio space, as well as new office and warehouse restrooms in an existing industrial building at 2701 Spirit Drive in Fort Worth. The same kind of work will happen at 2601 Spirit Drive with an estimated cost of $1.98 million, according to previous reporting.
